Folk Alley

Folk Alley

The FreshGrass Foundation is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to preserving, supporting and creating innovative grassroots music. We produce the FreshGrass Festival in North Adams, MA and Bentonville, AR; we publish No Depression, the quarterly journal of roots music; we publish and stream Folk Alley, the 24-hour online listening for roots music; and we offer a variety of grants, commissions, and awards to roots musicians.

Folk Alley is a public service that strives to bring folk, roots, and Americana music to the world via the Internet, reaching across the miles and the generations to provide global exposure for an art form with long-standing tradition and a loyal fan community. FolkAlley.com went online in September of 2003, streaming its unique blend of traditional folk, roots, Americana, contemporary singer/songwriters, Celtic, bluegrass, and other world sounds.

Folk Alley was founded and run by Kent State University’s WKSU public radio station until 2019 when Folk Alley joined the Freshgrass Foundation family. Folk Alley continues to distinguish itself among online music services as a respected leader for folk, roots, and Americana content. Whether it’s though the 24-7 hosted music stream; specialty side streams; a vibrant website and mobile app; a weekly syndicated radio show, heard in 50 markets across the US; or the robust Folk Alley Sessions podcast and video series, there’s something for everyone who wants to discover and enjoy contemporary folk, roots, and Americana music for the 21st century.
